September celebrates World Alzheimer’s Month, with the 21st dedicated to raising awareness of this disease. Dementia is a growing challenge for many families, with a profound impact on people living with dementia, carers, families, and health and social care systems. Despite the progress made, there remains a lack of information, stigma and misunderstanding.
Awareness and knowledge are key to combating the stigma associated with dementia. We need to promote better understanding, support families and carers, and ensure that people with dementia continue to be recognised for their history, identity and ability to participate in the community.
The Memorable project contributes to this goal by promoting a more inclusive society for people with dementia through art and culture. The initiative supports museums, cultural organisations and communities in creating more accessible, welcoming and meaningful experiences, thereby enhancing participation, well-being and a sense of belonging.
This September, Memorable is calling for joint action to combat stigma and ensure that people with dementia continue to participate in cultural and community life. Because culture is a right and should be accessible to everyone!
